PO Box Vs Street Address

Many small businesses that operate from home choose to use a PO Box rather than their physical street address in order to keep their private street address off of the internet and to help them present a professional image. In addition, some businesses prefer to use a PO Box because they want to be able to receive packages from private delivery companies like UPS and FedEx.

However, using a PO Box for a business does have some drawbacks including being unable to use the PO Box as a return address on packages or letters. This can be problematic if you are dealing with an eCommerce website that requires you to include your company’s return address on all deliveries, and it can also make it challenging for the USPS to verify the return address if it is included in a PO Box.

There are a few ways to get around this issue. The first is to simply write your PO Box address on the second line of the return address section of the package or letter, and then list your street address on the first line. This should work well for most cases, but it is a good idea to write legibly and be sure that the handwriting is clear. This will ensure that the mail can be easily read when it is being processed, sorted, and delivered.

Another way to work around this problem is to have the mail that would typically be delivered to your street address redirected to your PO Box by calling Directory Assistance or submitting a Freedom of Information Act request. This will allow you to receive your packages and other mail without the risk of it being lost in transit, and it will also save you the time and expense of having to have items shipped back to the seller.
